Lean Leap Days will be on view from August 15 to September 7, 2025 in Haegue Yang’s former studio in Yeongeon-dong, Jongno-gu for the last decade. Centered around the Mesmerizing Mesh series, first introduced in 2021, the exhibition features related publications along with newly produced small sculptures. Mesmerizing Mesh stems from the artist’s long-standing interests in traditions and rituals across various cultures. As the series progressed, however, her focus converged on the materiality of paper. Hanji, still commonly found in everyday life, also appears significantly in various indigenous traditional rituals, including shamanistic and folk practices. Being fragile and delicate, yet imbued with both cultural and spiritual connotations, hanji is folded and cut, then compressed and attached to compose a flat surface in Mesmerizing Mesh. Studio Haegue Yang initiated Lean Leap Days in a space that once explored the infinite depth of the spatiality of flat surfaces, where numerous narratives and motifs have been compressed. The space, once used as a studio for working and living, temporarily becomes a gallery contemplating the intense evolution of Mesmerizing Mesh.

양혜규 작가의 ⟪얇은 도약의 나날들⟫ 전시가 지난 십여 년 간 작가의 스튜디오였던
종로구 연건동에서 8월 15일부터 9월 7일까지 개최된다. 2021년에 첫 선을 보인 평면 작업
〈황홀망恍惚網 Mesmerizing Mesh〉을 중심으로, 변천사를 보여주는 다양한 관련 도서들과
미공개 소형 조각들이 함께 전시된다. 〈황홀망〉 은 다양한 문화권의 제의적 의례에 대한
작가의 오랜 천착에서 비롯되었다. 하지만 연작이 거듭됨에 따라 작가는 종이라는 재료
자체에 더욱 관심을 가지게 된다. 한지는 일상에서 흔히 접할 수 있는 재료인 한편
무속을 비롯한 다양한 전통 의례에도 등장한다. 얇고 미약하지만 문명사적 의의와
영적 의미를 동시에 품으며, 접히고, 오려지고, 눌려서 얇은 표면을 구성한다.
양혜규 스튜디오는 그간 이곳에서 복합적인 서사와 모티브를 압축하며 납작한 표면의
무한한 공간성을 탐구해왔다. 작품 제작과 생활의 공간이었던 스튜디오는
집약적 진화를 거듭해온 〈황홀망〉 연작을 반추하는 ‘전시’라는 소임을 잠시 부여받는다.
